How much time is needed per credit hour?

Standard rule

  • An A is a 4.0 GPA
  • You'll need to spend a total of FOUR hours every week PER credit hour.
  • Those hours are a combination of in-class time plus study or homework hours.
  • Example: (3 credit course x 4.0 GPA = 12 hours per week for an A) For a THREE credit class, you'll need to spend 3 hours in-class and 9 hours studying and doing homework.
  • Example: (THREE 3-credit courses and ONE 4-credit course = 13 credit hours in a term. 13 credits x 4.0 GPA = 52 hours per week for an A) For each THREE credit class, you'll need to spend 3 hours in-class and 9 hours studying and doing homework. Also, for that FOUR credit class, you'll need to spend 4 hours in-class and 12 hours studying and doing homework.
