Shakespeare in the Park Assignment

• Everyone must attend one of the two Shakespeare in the Park performances at Titusville BCC either as an actor or as an audience member
  • Late afternoons on November 12, 13, 19, or 20.

Read the following to earn Committed Extra Credit for Jones' Fall 2011 Communications 2 students and Humanities students



Purpose:
By having to do a play rather than just read and test, or read and write,
we gain an understanding of fiction, character, plays, art, and collaboration with others.

This is NOT extra credit; it's committed extra credit.

How are these points used in the class?

• You may use the points in-lieu of doing assignments or tests in class.
  • However, Communications 2 students must do the Major Research assignment.
  • Humanities students must do the Research paper.
  • You cannot use points on part of an assignment; you either do the assignment and take the grade, or elect to skip the assignment and use your CEC points.
  • The only Committed extra credit available is for Shakespeare in the Park; don't ask about other options.
  • These are not extra credit points; if you have any left over at the end of the term, they are NOT added to your grade.

How many points can be obtained?

• Major role characters will have 500 points to use in the course.
• Minor role characters (with little or no speaking) will have 250 points.

What if I want a minor role but they give me a major role?

• You must take what you are given as a part.
• There are only 3 or 4 minor role parts
• You cannot decline a major part just to grab the 250 of a minor role.
• If you refuse a major role for the sake of a minor one, you will have no part.

What happens if I get fired / don't attend rehearsals or performances?

• Rehearsals are usually from 4-6 on the weekdays (though other times will be required.)
• If you are removed/fired from the play, you will lose the CEC points from the course.
  • In other words, if you lose those points, just subtract them off of the total to the course to determine the highest grade you could achieve.

After accepting a role

• You must sign and submit to me the Committed Extra Credit Agreement, which states that you are well aware that failure to show up to auditions, or failure to perform, will be a loss of your points.
