Cause and Effect Paper
Assignment Name: Cause and Effect
Purpose:
To learn and write how a multitude of influences create an event which leads to a plethora of outcomes.
-
The argument in this paper is not a linear or "logical" series of events.
- "Cause and effect" is a lie and is cheap reductivism.
- No event occurs from just one cause, and no cause creates just one event, or even a cascading of a series of events.
- Use the following terms: influences, event, and outcomes
- Must have at least three unfluences
- One event
- Must have at least three outcomes
- Write one entry 150 to 250 words long.
- Use 5% links (thus 150 words has at least 8 links, 200 words has 10 links, 250 words has 13 links)
- No encyclopedia or dictionary links
- No image links
- Links must be meaningful connections to meaningful webpages
- Embed three pertinent images
- Warning: hotlinking to images may result in them not appearing in your blog
Example:
I drop and break a glass in the kitchen.
- Influences:
- Not holding glass properly
- Slippery hands
- Not focusing on task at hand
- Event:
- Outcomes:
- I feel bad for breaking a glass
- I berate myself
- I have to clean up
- I waste my time
Note that the influences and outcomes are not connected to each other except by the event.
- None of the influences are a series of cause and effects--they are all influences that may have nothing to do with one another.
- That is, not holding something properly does not mean you will have slippery hands.
- Having slippery hands does not cause lack of focus.
- None of the outcomes are related to each other by cause and effect.
- Cleaning up is not an effect of berating oneself.
